The Gathering (Koi)

This piece began with a suggestion from someone I met at an opening at the Viridian Artists art gallery in Chelsea, New York, where one of my lipstick works was on view. They encouraged me to try oil sticks, noting their similarity to lipstick in both texture and gesture. Intrigued, I decided to experiment with the medium by painting one of my favorite subjects—brightly colored fish. Set against deep blue water, the red and orange koi glide beneath the surface as vibrant green lily pads quietly emerge in the corner. The result is a playful exploration of color, movement, and material, now transformed into a puzzle so the act of making and remaking the image becomes part of the experience.
